Question: How far is lift top supposed to open. ? Seems like when opened it only goes half width of table ? Is this normal?
Answer: Yes the top covers approximately 1/2 the table when fully open. If it opened more it could be a tip hazard.

Answer: No it comes as one piece. The only thing that you need to do is put on the 4 legs.
